Marine Sanitation

For the comfort and convenience of their passengers many boats include heads with marine toilets. In most, the heads look similar to seated flush toilets but there are key differences. Marine toilets include a system of valves and pumps that brings seawater into the toilet and pumps waste out through the hull in place of the more normal cistern and plumbing trap to a drain

In small boats the pump is often hand operated. There can be issues from using toilet pumps this way. For example, the cleaning mechanism can be easily blocked with excessive toilet paper or other fibrous material. Having to repair or maintain your boat’s plumbing can quickly turn a day of recreation into a work day. If this is the case in your boat, an upgrade to an electric marine toilet system is probably long overdue.
