For comfort and convenience many boats include marine toilets. In most, the heads look similar to seated flush toilets, but there are key differences. Unlike the cisterns and plumbing trap systems that are in most residences, marine heads include a system of valves and pumps to carry seawater into the toilet then pump waste out through the hull.
Some of these pumps are manual and easily clog. Having to repair or maintain your boat’s plumbing can quickly turn a day of recreation into a work day. If this happens to you, upgrading to an electric toilet system is probably long overdue.
